Captain Jim Coker began his Law Enforcement Career in 1979 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He began at the Hoover Police Department in 1984. He has been assigned to Patrol, Traffic, and as a Crime Scene Investigator.
Captain Coker has completed extensive training in many areas of Critical Incident operations, including Hazardous Materials and Incident Command. He has commanded the Operations Bureau, Administrative Services Bureau, and the Investigative Services Bureau.
Captain Coker serves as the Public Information Officer for the Hoover Police Department.
Captain Coker is certified as a Senior Crime Scene Analyst by the International Association for Identification. He is a 1980 graduate of the University of Alabama, a graduate of the Alabama Military Academy, the National Fire Academy, a 2006 graduate of the FBI National Academy, and a graduate of Leadership Shelby County.
Captain Coker is certified as a "Master Exercise Practitioner" by the US Department of Homeland Security/Emergency Management Institute. He is an Instructor at the Alabama State Trooper Academy , the Tuscaloosa APOSTC Academy , and at Jefferson State College. He is a member of the FBI National Academy Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Metropolitan Criminal Justice Executive Association and the International Association for Identification.
